3 Styles of Hypnotherapy, Which is Right for You?
There are several styles being used for hypnotherapy but, not all of these styles will work wonderfully with clients. Observing yourself the way you are reacting or responding to people who tells you what to do is one simple way of knowing which works best for you.
If you’re the kind of person who feels secure when you’re given directions or requests, then directive approach is likely the best for you, if you deem yourself to be rebellious when people are telling you what to do, a permissive approach will be of better choice. You’ve got to interview your prospect hypnotherapist about his/her style and training to know if you’ll be responsive and feel comfortable to their chosen approach.
You’re going to have brief overview of some of the styles of hypnotherapy in the next lines, which will help you understand what is best for you.
Directive approach – in this approach, what the hypnotherapist will do is guide the client in a state of hypnosis and then, gives suggestions on what to do. Many people are quite familiar with this said approach as it’s the kind of technique that is similar to what we see in movies and stage hypnosis.
As a matter of fact, almost every style of hypnotherapy is using this aspect. Just telling clients to be comfortable and relax and take deep breaths is already a direct suggestion. If ever the client is open, receptive and suggestible to the process and if they don’t have inner conflicts on the focus of hypnotherapy session, direct suggestion will work effectively.
Open ended style – here, rather than telling the client to close their eyes, the hypnotherapist is utilizing a permissive style of hypnosis that may use a permissive or embedded suggestion. In this suggestion, the language is mirroring what the client is experiencing and that he/she has the freedom to respond to what is suggested or not.
In open ended style, hypnotherapists are using metaphor to teach clients new inner response to a given situation or to expand their resources and perception about the problem. As a matter of fact, those who are under this style tells that things are more fluid, effortless and organic.
Transpersonal approach – most of the time, hypnotherapist invokes the inner wisdom of their client directly and asking for its support to guide the session. The client access such wisdom and directly work in it with trance via symbolic communication, voice dialogue as well as inner knowing that has direct access to wisdom, healing, creativity and insight. Whether you believe it or not, this style backs the cultivation of the client’s ongoing relationship with their inner wisdom.
